The employee shall be available in a full-time capacity during assigned telecommuting work hours (specific hours to be discussed with supervisor). While telecommuting/remote working, the employee is responsible for ensuring a worksite environment suitable for accomplishing their regular job duties during scheduled hours of work and, if applicable, arranging for dependent care just as they would if they were working at the regular UCSC worksite. NOTIFICATIONS UC Vaccination Policy: With limited exceptions, COVID-19 vaccinations are required for Covered Individuals under the Policy. UC Scout offers "A-G" approved college preparatory and College Board-approved Advanced Placement courses online. UC Scout's mission is to support educationally disadvantaged students across California, raise student achievement levels, and close achievement gaps. UC Scout Instructional Designers focus heavily on designing, developing, implementing, and evaluating course content. The incumbent reports to an Instructional Design Supervisor. The Executive Director oversees the UC Scout team, which consists of about thirty full-time employees and another two-dozen part-time employees. UC Scout is a branch of UC Santa Cruz and the University of California. JOB SUMMARY Works on instructional design course projects and program initiatives of moderate scope and complexity. Applies organization policies and procedures to support collaborative content creation, review, and implementation. Exercises judgment to determine appropriate actions, troubleshoot, and resolve issues with content and/or LMS (Canvas). Support the Instructional Design team in areas such as online instructional pedagogy and asynchronous course/curriculum design for high-school learners. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training (in progress acceptable). • Working knowledge of functional areas (instructional design) and understanding of how work within one course may impact work being done on other courses or in other areas. • Demonstrated attention to detail • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills and ability to conduct analysis and develop recommendations. • Organizational skills • Proficiency in verbal and interpersonal communication skills, collaboration and negotiation skills. • Proficient written communication skills • Working knowledge of instructional design principles and learning strategies, including needs analysis, backwards design, learning outcomes and assessment design, and instructional approaches including lecture, discussion, activities, projects, etc. • Working knowledge of the technical tools and platforms required to achieve the delivery of engaging and media-rich online learning content, and of trends in the use and effectiveness of educational technology and learning. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS • Master's degree including substantial coursework and research in the fields of instructional design, curriculum development, pedagogy, or related field. • Teaching Credential or other/equivalent experience or training • Working knowledge and skills with relevant business software systems (Canvas LMS, Kaltura, GSuite, CidiLabs/DesingPLUS). • Working knowledge of K-12/high school learning theories and education methodologies. • Working knowledge of educational institution/organization policies and procedures, including policies that impact online course development. • Working knowledge of copyright law, ADA compliance in electronic environments, and other regulations and guidelines that relate to online course development and distribution.
